Entering the time tunnel is always a gamble. I never know where or when I’ll end up, what challenges I’ll face, or who I’ll become. But becoming Rebecca Owens and dealing with what had to be faced at the mortuary, was something else. Emerging from the tunnel, I found myself in a top-down 2-D world. The music was eerily familiar, instantly triggering a sense of déjà vu. Seeing a boarded-up door, my curiosity took over. One by one, I pried off the boards and stepped inside, quickly realizing that navigating in the dark would be almost impossible without a flashlight or even matches—otherwise, things could get ugly fast.

The familiar, strange feeling with the music wasn’t just a coincidence. I’ve been in situations like this before. The sight of zombies attacking people around me made my house feel like a temporary refuge—except, of course, for the inconvenient fact that water and electricity were cut off. This was bound to be a problem, but I discovered that the remaining survivors had gathered in Terminus. That’s where I planned to head, hoping it wouldn’t be too perilous or too late.

In my adventure of trying to get to Terminus, four panels are my constant companions in this adventure. The top left shows the current time, location details, and weather—super handy. The bottom left displays my overall condition and inventory. The top right gives me a sense of direction, albeit potentially leading me into dangerous territory. The bottom right offers options for travel, attack selection, crafting, cooking, and even sleeping. And, glancing upwards, I can see my hit and action points. With all this information at my disposal, I decided it was time to move on.

Leaving the house, I pressed on with caution, feeling their presence growing closer. Every step had to be calculated, every sound minimized. Navigating through the eeriness, I managed to slip inside various buildings, scavenging for essentials. I found some food and even a fire extinguisher—versatile tools for survival. Day one passed without a zombie encounter, but I could sense them nearby, lurking in the shadows, waiting for their moment.

Every step I took, I felt the zombies inching closer. With my axe in hand, I finally faced what I knew was inevitable. Swinging at their weak points, I managed to bring them down. Their demise marked my cue—I had to get out of this building, and fast.

As I navigated through buildings and ventured into the open streets, I constantly scavenged for resources and crafted whatever I could to face the growing horde of zombies. Reaching Terminus was my goal, even if it meant traveling by boat. But then, I found myself trapped and had to lay low. I spotted my chance: continue struggling or enter the time tunnel. I chose the tunnel. Looking back at the devastation of this world left me reflecting. The scavenging methods, the unique items I discovered, the crafting and strategic attacks—each added layers to my journey. Traveling in vehicles, especially the boat, felt liberating as zombies futilely tried to catch me. The survivors I encountered were a mix of hope and despair. For future survivors, I hope they find the provisions I left behind, just as I did. This journey taught me the unpredictability of life. It’s a mix of good and bad, and we should be open-minded about the people we meet. Trust and hope are essential in navigating each day, and every day is worth living.
